.500 NE projectile performance
      21/10/14 10:30 PM

I found the below quote on the net regarding the .500 NE.

"Some professional African hunters have complained that the taper of the 570 grain bullet toward the nose, increases the incidents of bullet "fish tailing" during penetration causing the bullet to not maintain a straight course".

Now,I have been around big bores for about ten years now and have never heard of this before. And I've shot a few buff in my time, before and since I got into big bores. But in the matter of a week I have seen it twice on the net. I am nobody's fool by any stretch of the imagination and am well aware of the misinformation generated on the internet. but has anyone heard of this before? I assume they would be talking about solids here as well.

I have just purchased a .500 NE, although I'm not in the slightest concerned about the above comments, but I would appreciate (and be suprised)to know if there is a problem with a particular projectile on the market.

The more I think about it as I write this, the more odd the statement sounds. A 570gn projectile "fish tailing" so what? even if it tumbles, so what. I very much doubt a 570gn solid projectile will deviate from it's course very much at all even after hitting massive bone structure so projectile shape sounds odd.

I'll appreciate your views and replies

Bill
