The scope you put on a hunting rifle should have 4X or 6X as the maximum magnification, not the minimum. There is no earthly use in the hunting field for the kind of scopes you mention. A fixed power 4X or 6X can take advantage of everything your rifle has to offer and save you a lot of money as well. I killed over 90 head of plains game in Africa with my pre-64 Model 70 Winchester in .300 H&H and the scope on it is a Lyman All American Perma Center 4X. My heavier rifles have 2 1/2X to 3X scopes. Spend your money on ammunition learning to shoot your rifle, not on equipment which can't replace skill.
