Ovny,

Out of the two scopes listed I would go for this one. But for a .300 probably a 3.5-10x Leupold, Zeiss Conquest or similar.

I agree with the others, that a 4x, 6x etc is pretty much enough needed, but in a .300 would consider a bit more magnification for long shots. My 8x68S has a 1 1/2-6x on it, the 6.5x65 a 3-9x. For those reasons, some extra range may be needed.
