4X is a very useful power for a big game rifle. If shooting very small game at long range, the higher powers are needed, as in shooting coyotes or ground squirrels at 600 to 700 yards, but - not needed for 99% of big game shooting. Too- the 4X scope will withstand recoil very much better than higher powered scopes.

There might be the odd hunting shot that requires greater magnification than 4X, however someone asking these sorts of questions, in my opinion, might need to practice shooting at normal big game ranges, ie: out to 150yards until HE becomes proficient. A run-of-the-mill .300 Winchester Magnum has more power and recoil than can be used effectively by the majority of hunters. A "RUM" any-calibre has velocity and recoil beyond any useful range for most shooters, especially those who lack a lot of shooting and hunting experience. This is, in my opinion, of course.
