Mauser ID

Posted pics of this mauser when I first got it and finally got around to removing the scope and white line spacer to have a good look at what i had. Unfortunately I am none the wiser. I have been told it used to be a full wood 7x57. It looks to have been cut down and rebarreled to .308. It looks similar to Mauser model Ms I have seen and a few people on the previous post said the same. The only numbers are the 1851 at the bottom of the receiver. There is a 51 on the magazine and trigger guard assembly. Trigger guard is a work of art in itself being carved from horn.Stock is a thing of beauty (what is left of it) Receiver has a stipple on its top but there are no manufacturers name or numbers anywhere only the stamps as per the photos. Because of the modifications it really has no collector value but it is a magnificent shooter. Would have been some rifle in its day. If any one can tell me anything from the numbers or the photos I would be greatly appreciated. It keeps me up at night.

Photo above shows a faint outline of a keeper screw in front of the main screw
