When I hunted in the Selous in Tanzania in 1972 the Chinese were building a railroad to connect Zambia with Dar Es Salaam. We used to drive past their work crews every day on the way back to camp from hunting.

The Tanzanian government at the time was very Marxist oriented. The railroad was constructed by means of an interest free loan of $500,000,000 from the Peoples Republic of China. They have now had forty years to consolidate their foothold.
