.458 Win Browning Safari
      22/12/04 10:56 AM

I am seriously dithering about buying a .458 Win, chambered in an old Browning Safari FN. The gun is in excellent/minty condition with 2X leupold for 1150.- Canadian. Which is about $931.-US.
The largest caliber I shoot is a 45/70 Winchester ultra-light Jap.1886 repro.,shooting 400 grainers @ 1900fps.I can handle its recoil for 20 round sessions, smeared over an hour, standing shooting from a tripod.
The .458 will be strictly a play rifle, since for me an African Safari is not in the books unless I win a lottery.
Is the stock design of the FN Browning such, that it will tame recoil or does it "enhance" recoil sensation.
I thought that the stock appears to be well enough designed and combined with the weight would tame recoil. However I never shot one of those, which is the real test.
Anyone out there that actually has shot one of those Browning Safari rifles? How do you like it, any additional comments?
Like to hear from you. Thank you
