Problem with many Oz timbers is the high mineral uptake and thus murder on chisels. Oz blackbean (Castanospermum australe?) contains a nasty ingredient (poisonous when inhaled) as does "QLD walnut".

Oz blackwood (an acacia) is pretty good, same for QLD maple.
