So if I've understood correctly, you have given him several guns as presents. That you can't take back. They're his forever. If this is the case, I think you should tell him just how special it is to hand down a gun to the next generation as a heirloom, and that it will make you proud that he continues to use these guns. (I'm presuming that the guns aren't total crap, that barely function!

)Just as he will someday be proud to hand them down to his future child. The fact that these have been used by you, and proven, make them far more "worth" than a new gun. Then of course when he's old enough to get anything he wants, he can do just that if he so chooses. Or, hopefully, he'll continue to use and appreciate the "family heirlooms". IMO!
