It depends on the rifle.
Small bore high velocity rifles tend to be less forgiving.
Bore (16, 12, 10, etc) tend to be very forgiving.

You'll need to know what it was regulated for first, then choose similar bullet type, shape, and weight. From there the chances get better.

Choosing willy-nilly from the vast selection possibilities for 30-06..? Chances can vary as greatly as there are choices.
Choosing from .470 softs might narrow your chances a great deal...
