Neale,

I could use an open sighted Martini-Henry .222 Rimmed. But like a scope for the ranges in vine rows and precise shooting needed.

The point is, in vine rows, I don't like to miss, whether a fox, rabbit, or hare, or in this case a deer. A miss is less a problem in a nice farm paddock, hills etc. And I like a small fragile bullet so if a miss it breaks up. Of course one takes care with the back drop as well.

All the big bores are out. The 9,3, .375, .450, are all ready to go.

The .308 would have been fine, or the 6.5x55, except I don't want to use those in vine rows. Actually have LOTS of choices, but none are really suitable for the job. Safety you know comes first. If the 8mm was shooting, do you think I will use that in vine rows!!!

So really the main nuisance was the new .222 scope had just come off and needed resighting.

And a reason for the ffffing delay on that. I bought several sets of Mauser QD mounts. These mounts are VERY expensive. And they are supplied WITHOUT any tools. I think I found an allen key to put them on with. But it wouldn't undo them! Contacted the Mauser importers into Australia and got a smart arse condescending reply. With a mount of many hundreds of dollars, you think a 50 cent little tool would be supplied like most scope mounts makers do.

Anyway bought several sets of tools and found ONE little tool that seems to fit well enough.
