We have put together a couple 404's with Krieger Barrels. However we use our own contour that tapers .012 per inch. We have found that a 24" barrel with a muzzle OD of .715 -.720 works well for balance and point-ability with a Mod-70 that is scoped with or without sights . Loaded with 5 rounds, a scope and our Legend Fiberglass stock the rifle will hit the scale at 9lbs 14oz to 10lbs. Balance, portability and handling characteristics is excellent. I would think a Krieger #5 would be fine with a muzzle OD of around .750
