The original Chipisi homestead, pockmarked with bullet holes from the civil war in Rhodesia. Sad to see. However as Chipisi was claimed by "warvets" and the invasion reported by JAG around the 2000 to 2002 period, I imagine the whole property is now rather sad.

A typical scene at Chipisi on the way to look for the eland. Our trip was in October and it was very dry and very hot. The country was experiencing a severe drought. As might be noticed later, Victoria Falls were not up to its usual standard and it was much smaller than what I had seen in 1988. But the rains were only a short time away. As can be seen the countryside looks devastated. However by the time we left Zimbabwe five weeks later, the rains had started and what was brown, dry and hard, was now greening up.

Wayne offered to take me to where they had hung a leopard bait recently and leopard sign had been found. No spoor sighted this time. Here Wayne and Judea are returning to the homestead through wild tobacco plants.
