I also discovered when removing the old poorly fitted recoil pad that some clown has drilled two 5/8" lightening holes into the butt... no wonder it had a little too much forward balance, I put it down to the 24" barrel.

I've got a few of the Talley cross bolts which will fit fine, the rifle has been bedded (incorrectly) then tweaked some previous owner to remove bedding material from the front, sides and bottom where it was bearing on the action recoil lug.

While that was the right thing to do to correct the bedding and leave only the rear of the action recoil lug and the forward glass bed surface in contact, it seems to have created a 'stress riser' and cracked from one corner where the bedding was removed across the stock reinforce.

If I dig out all the old bedding, lever the crack apart and use high strength marine grade wood glue slid in via a cheap feeler gauge, then screw in the new cross bolt it should all tie together OK.

Then rebed the whole lot correctly using Devcon
