I've known of quite a few 'hard condition' applications of these micro red dot sights.
A note on the scout-scope arrangement is the double rifle's regulation can be significantly affected by the relatively massive attachment on the barrels. Many guys have complained of loss of regulation due to the kind of scope mounting you mentioned above.
Might work, Might not.
