I'm still looking for my picture of the ammo packet, however I did find my book on Greek smallarms.

The machinegun that I refered to was the Hotchkiss M1926 and M1922. These were normally chambered in 7.92 mauser but were supplied to Greece in 1925-1928 chambered for the 6.5x54MS.

The velocity for this weapon with a 577mm is given as 745m/s for the 6.5x54MS round.

The same text gives the velocity for the M1903 rifles as 680 m/s for a 725mm barrel and 627 m/s for are carbine with a barrel that was 525mm long.

So comparing the velocity of the machine gun to that of the carbine we see that there approx. 100 m/s difference in velocities.

So as I said, there is obviously 2 loadings and it feasible to assume that the rim thickness is thicker for the machinegun loading.

Any chance you can take a few pics of the two cases side by side?
