I used to have a yard full of Russian wolfhounds and Borzois. I always wondered how they would react to a wolf. One day one of the Borzois wandered over toward a neighbor's dog which was foolishly trespassing in my front field. The other dog lost its nerve and tried to run away, whereupon the Borzoi was on him like a flash and seized him by the nape of the neck and started slamming him to the ground. I broke it up, and the neighbor's dog never trespassed again.

I was later told that Borzois handle coyotes that way, but that it takes two of them to handle a wolf, one on each side. No wolves in Tennessee, but plenty of coyotes.

My Russian wolfhounds stood between 34" and 39" at the shoulder, and weighed 150-180 pounds. I had to buy dog food in 500 pound lots from the Co-Op to keep them fed. Unfortunately giant dogs don't live long, and all are in doggy heaven now.
