When less is more, .376 Steyr
      06/03/11 01:32 AM

As I've posted earlier I was deliberating getting either a .300 Wby or .376 Steyr in Dakota model 76 lefty. I went with the .376 Steyr and the more I study the ballistics the more I like it.

The .376 Steyr is a step away from "Ultra Magnum, Short Magnum, etc.", but rather, less velocity in a smaller standard case. The virtues of the .375 are kept and can be made into a shorter lighter rifle that is perfect for big game out to 250 yards but can take dangerous game if needed.

However, the biggest plus for me is Less Recoil. As I get older (only 46 now) even the great .375 H&H would get weary. I'm sure it failed commercially because of the "need for speed" mentality.

So there you have it. Less is more!
