Hard to believe that a .22 short can penetrate through that much tissue (let alone the skin) and have enough left to penetrate the heart as well. Maybe hitting a coronary artery could cause the elephant to die of a "heart attack"
Next member to bag an elephant could replicate this on the dead beast and see if it is at all plausable.
