I was in a gun store in New Zealand when someone got his new Steyr-Mannlicher - an early one about 30 years ago. He wasn't happy with the plastic mag. However, it's not just plastic but Macrolon, if I recall, which is a military spec material. There were 2 mags with the gun and the guy said he only needed one so the rep, to prove a point, put the second mag on the floor and then jumped on it, (don't try this at home folks !). Anyway it shot out from under his shoes, bounced around several shop fixtures and survived it all without a scratch which proved that, it may be "plastic" but it certainly wasn't weak. Some years later I related this at the Steyr plant in Austria and they weren't a bit surprised saying that this material is used on many of their military arms and has to meet very high standards of strength and durability. Having said all that, I sold mine and now shoot Schoenauers.
