Scope and open sights on Merkel .470
      06/09/10 04:45 AM

Planning on putting a scope (1,5-5x20) on my DR. However, I'd like a low and decentlooking mount.

I see that Searcy make his rifles with the quarterrib ready for Talley rings?
Is it possible to mill out a couple of notches, and have a couple of Talley bases machined to fit nicely into them? I'll only head down this road if it looks good in the end..
What width is the talley bases compared to the quarter-rib on the Merkel? It's the "old" 140-1 extractor model.

Does anyone know where I can order Platinum beads as a replacement bead? I'm also getting my gunsmith to file down the rear blade to a proper shallow V and fitting a platinum line to the centre of it.
I find the original sights totally useless, and have given up on them...
