OAL seems to be somewhat dependent on what bullet is used.
Some of the LT capped Westley bullets are more pointy than the blunt LT caps and certainly moreso than just about any bullet available today. I suspect the originals can inherently have a longer OAL than with a modern bullet because of this.

Something I ran into just last night is loading lighter bullets in the 404 (I suspect the 425 would be the same though). I am not comfortable loading the lighter bullets (300gr. as opposed to the 400gr.) to the same OAL simply because the bullet doesn't seat into the neck very far. I was hoping the 75% rule would work in the 404 or 425 as it can in doubles. Hoping it would shoot to the sights with both weights.
Is it OK to load to a shorter OAL? Is the OAL generally a maximum to insure proper feeding? Again, I feel a blunt nose bullet seated to the same OAL as a pointed bullet could have difficulty chambering.
