I would say definitely NOT a deer round. I have owned several low-wall's in this caliber and it is a fun gun to shoot. However, the caliber is really underpowered for deer, in my opinion, and is surpassed by at least one other suitable caliber for deer in the low-wall configuaration, the .44-40. Even this one is still marginal. But these rifles are fun to shoot, plink, varmit shooting such as crows, groundhogs, etc..

Just my 2 cents worth.
