I would add its not assumption but certainty. A rare configuration. The peep sight is imho an Oberndorf special order addition.
A few months ago I held in my hands a single square bridge Kurz Mauser (unfortunately action only) where one could see the remainders of that same peep sight / typical cut out in the square bridge.

Action number was in the 20xxx range.

Sad to see that your rifle was butchered by shortening the original barrel. Easily to be seen , because the front sight ramp is resoldered on the wrong position ( I´ve always seen the front sight ramp flush with the muzzle on original Oberndorf rifles) and naturally the superfluous barrel band sling eye.

Anyway- in spite of the alterations- a highly desirable and very interesting item.
