Back in the early 80's I took a shot at a 40 kilo pig that ran across in front of our vehicle.
The pig crossed over from right to left and continued running out to the left.
I was in the passenger seat as it was a mates Toyota swb and he was driving and his younger brother was sitting in the back.
I jumped out of the Toyota and fired a shot at the rear end of the pig which was running directly away.
You know, the ol' texas heart shot!
The Rifle was an old Brno 602 with the peep in the rear bridge, about '72 or '73 manufacture from memory.
I was using a 1.5-5 Leupold in Conetroll mounts.
The bullet was a 235gn Speer loaded up with a healthy dose of 2208.
I didn't own a chronograph back then so I don't know the velocity of the loads I was using.
So I lined up on the pigs dissapearing freckle and touched one off, at a distance of maybe 50 yards or so.
There was the boom of the rifle shot followed shortly after by this really loud POPP!!!
Then the pig started squeeling loudly and running around in wild circles trying to bite itself on the arse!
My mates younger brother was having fits of uncontrollable laughter and I'm sure he actually pissed his pants he was so far gone!
I run up to the pig and finish it off with a shot to the brain.
Young brother is still wetting his duds!
He later explained that when the bullet hit there was the big POPP sound and at the same time there was an explosion at the pigs arse end and pieces of meat flew out in all directions!
An inspection of the area indeed revealed pieces of pork and skin lying around all over the ground and the biggest bit was the size of a cigarette packet!
An examination of the pig showed that the bullet had disintergrated on impact, had penetrated less than 2 inches and had literally blown a crater on the pigs rear end the size of a small dinner plate!
Here I was, the hero in camp because I was the one with "The Big Game Rifle" and the bloody thing had just failed big time on a half grown wild pig!

Needless to say I was not at all impressed with the performance of those 235 grainers and ended up going to 270 and 300 grain Hornadys!

I was never quite sure what made the brother laugh the hardest, the sight of all that pork in orbit or the fact that my "Elephant Slayer" Brno had proven to be such a joke!
