I know I've posted on this before, but I still haven't reached a definitive conclusion. I'm trying to learn more about factory scope-mounting on the pre-war models--the only system I'm sure of is the Springer-type pincer mount mated to a base on the rear of the barrel, just ahead of the action ring, with a single screw in left side of the bridge as the rear base. Was a similar set-up ever factory-mated to a base dovetailed into the action ring itself? I think it may have been very early on (teens or early twenties), in a manner that did not distort the lettering atop the action, but don't know for sure. Also curious if claw-mounts were ever a factory install. If anyone knows, please enlighten!
