Really a very nice rifle and in good shape too. I would agree , that the foreend may have been altered.
The position of the schnabel near the front panel grip shows the typical configuration of a Stutzen(= full-) stock .In the case of the Type G-Rifles for a 24 inch barrel .

Whereas the African Type L with the longer barrels shows the schnabel on the tip of the forend.

Is the barrel full octagon or octagon to round ?
