I was sent a link last night that shows things can can go very nasty when an African Buffalo does not want to die alone.

Hi from Australia,

I have just had sent to me a story about the events that led to the hospitalisation of Alan Shearing after the Buffalo charge. I know that you must get a lot of interest from around the world with this story but how is Alan going now ? I hope that he is well and I think that his decission to "Take a Break" would be expected after coming this close to meeting one's maker.

As a second point of interest, did the actual buffalo get struck correctly as I am a .375 owner intending to get to Africa one day and always thought that it would be adequate after shooting a N.T. Buffalo in September 2007 with no likely concerns.

The story about the Ranger and the AK47 how did all this firepower not help the matter and I know you can not comment on this one, but what happened to the "Hunter" as is does not take forever to clear a jam.

Please make a little time as a lot of Ozzie hunters are concerned for Alan,

Thanks for the email and concerns for Alan. He is doing much better and is now at home and will make a full recovery thankfully. I suspect that he will be back hunting in a year or two as it is in his blood. The decision to quit was more a financail desicion then any thing else.

A 375 if more then adequate. It was really very much bad luck as as the bull was running parallel to them Alan put his 3 rounds in it (with a 416 - obviuosly more fire power then a 375) but simply put the bull was dead on his feet and was running on adrenaline and covered those 20 odd yards very fast indeed. A 375 or for that matter a 700 is only passable when the bullet goes where it is supposed to and the hunters first shot was a little too far back. With regards to his jam I bet from the time he had a jam to the time the buff had finished doing the dirty on Al was a matter of seconds so I can understand how he did not get the back in action. Hope that is of a little help Jeff.
