Is the Leeds collection bigger than that of the Tøjhusmuseet in Copenhagen?

I cannot give you an answer as I have no knowledge of the museum you speak of.

The museum building in Leeds England cost £42 million to build in the early 1990's to house all the exhibits brought up from the Tower of London many of which had not been on public display due to lack of space there.

The Leeds museum is purpose built over several floors comprising hunting, war and medieval galleries.

Living displays of sword fighting in armour, jousting on horseback and falconry take place. Addittionally there is a craft court where you can see reproduction armour being made along with gunmaking.

holland and holland house a small display in the museum with the display of how a best shotgun is made, a finished gun is displayed along with many components used in the manufacture.

If you go to www.royalarmouries.org/visit-us/leeds you will find a virtual tour link via youtube, although brief you can at least see how the museum is set out.

What you don't see on a visit are the reserve collections amounting to thousands of weapons from military to Rigby hunting rifles, these are kept behind the scenes for visits by interest groups, gun clubs, law enforcement etc and can be arranged in advance, usually only small groups are admitted to the reserve collection, again due to strict security, proof of i.d must be brought along to the visit.

The separate National fireams collection is more restricted due to the sheer amount of weapons, many of which are fully automatic, usually to visit this collection you would need to be either a research fellow, part of the police or military and again only be pre-arranged vcisit which are always escorted.

That said however, if you do visit the UK a trip to the museum if you are up in the north of the country is well worthwhile and free!

Merry Christmas
