Last year I bought a sweet LH .264 WM R700 so I could free up my 7mm to be converted to a LH .375 H&H R700. This summer after 6 months I got it back and it's perfect, and for only about $600. I have it set up with a 1.25X4 Swarovsky.
This weekend my brother (from CO) and I went on a one day guided hunt in Ravanel SC. I let him carry my .264 and me the .375.
I bagged a small 80-100 lbs buck at 110 yards with a 235 grain Hornady. I literally flatten that deer. The wound channel was huge.
So, there you go. A .375 H&H is NOT too much gun for deer. In fact the guide said, I hate having to chase a wounded deer.
