The 6mm BR and the 6mm International (.22-.250 opened to 6mm) are gaining quite a following in F-Class (1000 yard target shooting using bipods or sandbags) and 1000 BR competition for just the reason you mentioned: barrel life. Be sure to get a twist quick enough to stabilize the long bullets used at those ranges.
