I'm not sure what is meant by "scope recoil overstress". If your gunsmith means that the rings are too narrow to prevent the scope from moving forward in the rings as a result of recoil, I think he is overly concerned. I use Griffin & Howe mounts on my .458 and .450 Watts, both of which have substantially more recoil than a .375, and have never experienced any problem. The G&H rings are quite narrow, even compared to the Talley ones.

Which EAW mount is your gunsmith referring to? In addition to the pivot mount, I believe EAW still makes a side mount. American pivot mounts are not known for their reliability in returning to zero after being removed and replaced, but the EAW system may be better. Of course, if you plan on sighting in each time you change scopes, then this would not be a problem.

New England Custom Guns markets both the EAW and Talley mounts in this country. You might email them and ask which they recommend for a rifle of your caliber. info@necgltd.com

I applaud your decision to use two scopes. Trying to make one scope do the work of two for the two very different types of hunting you describe would be a great mistake IMHO.
