This statement is not a guarantee, at least not squared feet. There are some big bears around Illiamna and Lake Clark, but I'd be suspicious of the guide that tells hunters they'll take bears 10-12 feet.

A 12' bear is a freakin' monster. A freak, maybe 1 bear in every 10,000 ever reaches that size. There are very few bears in Alaska killed each year that break that magic 10' mark. Anything over that is not something that happens on a yearly basis up here.

Just be careful

As a P.S., there is an area on the north side of Lake Illiamna that is going to be extremely loud and busy this working field season. There's been a huge gold/copper/moly discovery just on the north side of the lake there. The Pebble Discovery is one of the largest in U.S. history.

I would make sure this isn't the area you would be hunting in. It's going to be busy and noisy.
