Finally got around to testing the cloth patched 16 bore balls in my 13 bore straight rifled Husky barrel. As noted, I used a .662" Lyman mould and a .030" denim patch, lubed with SPG rubbed into the patches.

I fired the 'other' recipe first, .684" pure lead balls which engrave in the rifling just a bit - about .004" per side, which gave a 4 1/4" group for 4 shots. This is larger than the previous grouping with this ball, oh well.

I then fired 8 loads with the cloth patched 16 bore ball and, well, you can see the difference. The range was 32yards and those 8 went into 2 1/4" on centres

. I am pleased with this shooting and the gun - looks like I have a bear and moose load - 3 drams 2F, 1/8" card, then 2, 14 bore 1/2" fibre wads (from Track). The 14 bore wads are a perfect fit in the 2.4" brass 16 bore hulls from Buffalo Arms. Large pistol primers provide the ignition.
I've fired 8 shots at trap using the left, 16 bore barrel with 2 1/2 drams of 2f, 2 1/2" cards, single 1/2" 14 bore fibre wad, then 1oz. 7 1/2's, partial roll crimped on a thin "B" 14 bore wad. I managed 7 birds with the 8 shots - the miss was my fault, of course, shooting behind the bird. All but 1 bird hit, was disintegrated by the imp. cyl choked barrel. BP shot loads shoot tighter than smokeless, normally.

The round ball shooting was offhand, but I was leaning against a bench - cheating, I know - oh well.

There are 27.3gr. in a dram.
