I usually try and stay out of these type of discussions, being a peace loving fellow and not prone to controversy or opinionated conversation, but I will give it a go.

Firstly, I can't vouch for the mechanical superiority of one over the other but I would bet money that they are both up to the job at hand and you would have no worries over either.

Secondly, The Douglas is built along the lines of a traditional Brit Rifle. (It is designed and assembled in Britain after all) This includes Chopper Lump Barrels from Austria and nice engraving. Hand fitted, well balanced and I am told quite accurate.

Thirdly, The Searcy is made in the US and can be fitted to the original owner. (A plus) I have found the older Searcys very clubby and awkward but according to the guys I pay some attention to the new PH model is pretty good. Slimmer and very accurate. Searcy uses a monobloc barrel arrangement which is supposed to be as strong as a Chopper Lump but I have not been convinced yet. It is certainly strong enough though. It is a way to keep the price down and he does offer Chopper Lumps for an additional amount. The engraving on one of the Searcys I have looked at was atrocious. I think it was supposed to be the Elephant Ndlulamithi but who knows for sure. It made the old Indian Jefferys look good.

The Douglas is around US$12,00.00 and the Searcy PH US$9.500-11,000. Used I think they are about equal also.

I would suggest that if you have narrowed your choice down to these two that you look at them and shoot them both before putting up your money. It is allot of dough to not do some serious investigation and shopping.
