Well, I'm not sure Woodward would use an ink pen to scratch out "Gun" and write "Rifle" over it.
Unless a previous owner slapped on the only Automatic label he could find and altered it himself, which is possible.
You can also see that the little block on the inside of the case lid presses right down on the standing sight. Maybe that was put in the wrong place when it was relined though.

Also, as stated above, either the case is not original, the scope base, or both - I would guess both.

Is there a cut in the rib for the front scope mount in front of the sight, or is it part of the sight island?

I think generalwar is about right on as far as what Cabelas has into it. Also, once you start scrutinizing it, there are quite a few questions arising.
This is a prime example of "to buy or not to buy". Is it special enough to overlook it's shortcomings? At $15K, which seems reasonable, does it fit in with your own collecting parameters?

Maybe we should take a lesson of restraint which generalwar has displayed.
My guess is that he can easily afford it, so why quibble over a couple grand in price?
Simply because he is at a higher level of collecting than most of the rest of us.
This Woodward could certainly be the pride of most collections - even with its warts - so maybe the buyer will be able to take the next step up. Even at full ask, not a stupid buy by any measure.
