I was in my 40's before I started heading over to Africa--and turned 50 while in Zim last year as well..actually can't think of too many places I would rather be during a birthday...

As to guns--think you are making a correct decision in taking both...while I have not hunted there as much as some,maybe a bit more than others..but have always been glad I had both with me..while you are in S Africa there may not even be dangerous game in the area you are hunting...if there is, I would carry the .375 all the time out hiking..should that be a concern...if not, personally I would be carrying the '06 and if taking off tracking after a game animal you want to take with the .375, pull it out of the bag and have at it...in regards to paperwork...for me, that was not significant to even be a consideration..one extra form was all...and again, if one of your guns has a problem, you have the other that you are familiar with to use...IMHO, the only way to go...

If you were going into a dangerous game area, again, I would suggest you ALWAYS carry the H&H as the '06 will look awefully darn small when you have a pissed off cow ele coming at you to protect her calf...

Agree with Darryl, become one with your gun---I usually shoot a couple time a week for a couple of months before I go--typically just shooting off hand at targets I set up...or go out into the woods..pick little twigs or other object laying around at different distances and shoot off hand at them...amazing how quickly you can adapt to this...and very handy should you need it over there..I have a friend that takes his .375 out practicing on p-dogs ...a bit of an overkill...but, awesome practice....
