OK, ok...

The truncated shottie is mine. The previous owner's 'mate' had borrowed it for waterfowl, but thought it would be a hoot to shoot a fish he saw on the day. Stuck the muzzles in the water and pulled the trigger!

When I received the gun, it had been lopped to about 25 inches (the gunsmith wanted the whistle-cocked muzzles for his 'dickhead' hall of fame), anyway it cleaned up to 24 inches OK. Both the top and bottom ribs were blown back banana-peel fashion, just like an Elmer Fudd cartoon!

To regulate it for 1oz solid slugs, I clamped the muzzles touching, then played with the thickness of the packing about midway down the barrels. When it was regulated, I straightened and relaid the ribs. Added a tube-style ghost-ring on the breech-end of the top-rib, and a nice front caterpillar bead, and headed out bush!

I've never done it myself, but a great many full-grown buffalo have been killed cleanly with Brenneke shotgun slugs in northern Australia, also the S-ball Plastik slug. Most of the others can't cut the mustard.

I'm about to embark on a Brenneke spree here in the Top End (thanks, peter!) as soon as the weather permits. We are in the grip of the monsoon for the next month or two, but opportunities do arise...!

...and you are right about the range, JW, no-one would fire a shotgun slug of any kind at a buff further than 40 or 50 metres, without nominating for the previously mentioned hall of fame!
