Welcome to the forum...not sure what dirt you are referring too..there has been discussion on the .375 vs 416 vs 458 vs. etc......

Do know I for one have stated, that when hunting in a DG area, I prefer something more than a .375H&H..but that is merely my personal preference...I do feel perfectly comfortable with a .416 on my experiences thus far..and when I go back, as I stated in my other thread, for elephant only I will take my double 470 Nitro...but the .416 will still come along as it offers a bit more reach and versatility as it is scoped..so if a shot on a plains animal presents itself at much over 100 yards I would feel more comfortable with it than an open sighted rifle..

The .375 H&H is a great caliber..and own 2 myself...they both shoot really well and would have no problem taking them to Africa..again, I just prefer the .416..
