GSP7,
I have used their stains before on curley maple but not on English walnut. I had good luck with it on maple longrifle stocks. Another stain that I highly recommend is actually a stain/filler called Art's French Red stock filler and it is available from Brownells. An 8 ounce can is less than $15.00 and last a long time. The only drawback to using it is that the filler will settle out and somewhat harden up in the bottom of the can. It needs to be broken up with a screwdriver and stirred back into solution before each use. You then paint it on and let it start to dry, then rub off the excess across the grain. Let it dry and then repeat a time or two and your grain is filled and you have a great color about like the pre 64 Winchesters had. It is a nice walnut brown with lots of red undertones in it. One can lasts a LONG time. We built my wife a china hutch out of American black walnut and used this stain over it to even out the differences in colors. It worked great and we have had lots of compliments on it, especially the color. Bob H.
