The standard 2 3/4 inch .577 cartridge will push a 650gr Woodleigh to 1650-1700 fps at around 8 tons pressure, and is an ideal chambering for a modern double or Ruger No.1.

I have a little experience with this cartridge, and strongly recommend it. Can't imagine why anyone would want to shorten it to just over 2 inches when length is immaterial in a break-open DR or falling-block.

My thoughts on the .577 x 2 3/4 chambering have long been available on the web: those who aren't sick of hearing it can read my propaganda here.
