On my 3 trips to Zimbabwe I took a 450 No2 and a 9,3x74R.
On my last trip My wife was along and took a 450/400, and since it was its first time in Africa I used it as well.

I always knew what the "primary" game to be hunted was when I left the truck.

We did not usually shoot any plains game when tracking elephants, lion, or cape buff.

On a couple of occassions when were calling off the track for buff I did shoot some plains game with my 450 No2, a wildebest and another time an eland.

I did always carry some solids for the 9,3x74R double, just in case of elephant trouble, and for follow up on some bigger stuff.

I did shoot a cape buff [soft]and an elephant [solid] "on purpose" with the 9,3, ie I knew that was what were going to be tracking and I took the 9,3 to use on those animals.

There was never any doubt which rifle to take when leaving the truck.

It is a good idea IMHO to have your plains game rifle capable of handling what ever you run into, which means you must have some solids.

Even if my choice of rifles was a 375 and a 308 I would have some RN solids for the 308.

Of course I always had a powerful handgun.
