India is about to reopen hunting for non Indian citizens for pigs (some of the biggest boar in the world) and nilgai. The pressure is on the country to make it work and the onlys tumbling block has been the government's insistence that there be trained professional shikaris to guide the hunt. While the old shikaris have died out, some SOuth African companies have started to train shikaris in India from what I have heard and you may soon be able to give your rifles the thrill of hunting in India again.

Please don`t be puzzled with the barrelmaker. His name is Arthur Smith of Colchester. He made me two barrels in .333cal metford rifled( 7 grooved)+ one for himself. The twist ratio is 1:11 as the original jefferys were. Before anyone will decide to get such a special barrel, I think they will have too wait atleast two years as I did + pushing the barrelmaker for every 2 weeks......hahaha. I am sure Mr Smith will makeup such a barrel again....but one will have to be armed with heavenly giftet patience. Each barrel back then cost £650(included London proofmaks) + s&h....so it weren`t all that bad either...hahaha.
I ordered two barrels so in case in many years to come, I could have the spare barrel when the other is worn out. (I am gonna keep this rifle here)
I spended over $1000 in phone bills to call every barrel maker in USA to make me these .333cal barrels with the segmental grooves of the metford pattern...nobody made .333cals and none of them had heard anything about "metford segmental rifling".
India as a country has always been more interesting for me than even africa. I have somehow got to collect many books of hunting in India.
