IMHO, fit along with weight is very important...I had a 10 lb .470 that did not fit me well which will increase felt recoil-and it kicked the daylights out of me...however with my Westley Richards at 10.5 lbs and proper fit allows me to shoot lots of rounds with no adverse effects...

I have shot several 500 and 577's that didn't kick me like that .470 did...

100% agreement. Late late year I tried out a Ferlib-built Dakota badged 375 Flanged DR. Now the weight and the chambering (the rimmed half brother of the 375 H&H) should have made for a relatively mild recoil. I have a Ferlib round action DR hammergun in 9.3X74R, virtually the same weight and a round that is fairly close in normal recoil to the 375.

Now, this particular gun had the stock cut back severally to allow it to be sold to a small woman. She sent it back and the company was trying to sell it rather than restock. Five rounds and I switched over to my other Ferlib. The Dakota felt like a 470, not a 375 Flanged. The Ferlib had its usual firm but reasonable recoil.

Cutting the stock back had drastically altered the line, and therefore the feel, of the recoil. So the comments about fit are clearly accurate. Dave
