Mick,

Just found this on the Wby site, although I got there via Google!!! A few sites seem to have stuff in "archives" and Google gets you there, but here goes...Mike

PS. I have no requirement for extra magazine capacity for any of the 378 based calibres and especially the 550 Magnum

New Higher-Capacity Drop Box Magazine Easy to Retrofit on Weatherby® Rifles

For Release:
October 2002

Weatherby rifle owners who want to increase magazine capacity can now buy an easy-to-install drop box magazine kit through the company’s Custom Shop.

The new kit adds an extra round to the capacity of Japanese- and U.S.-made Weatherby Mark V® rifles with standard two- or three-round magazines.

“Hunters going after dangerous game will be especially interested in this upgrade,” said Brad Ruddell, vice president of sales and marketing. “It has been one of our most frequently-requested custom modifications and should now be of particular interest to those customers with rifles such as the Weatherby Mark V® Accumark .30-378 Magnum, since we’ve made it possible for anyone to install without gunsmithing.”

Ruddell said installation can be done in minutes on most rifle models by (1) removing the two guard screws holding the present magazine, spring, follower and floorplate, (2) dropping in the new expanded-capacity unit and (3) replacing the screws. Retorquing screws to the recommended setting is
required on Accumark rifles. Slight inletting modifications may be necessary on some rifle models.

With the new drop-in accessory, large-cased Weatherby caliber rifles (.30-378 – .460) gain four-shot capacity (three in the magazine plus one in the chamber) and calibers from .257 to .458 Lott are capable of five shots (four in the magazine plus one in the chamber). The kit also fits Weatherby rifles with standard-caliber actions, providing a seven-shot capacity (six in the magazine plus one in the chamber).

The drop box magazine kit carries a suggested retail price of $150. It can be ordered on new rifles. Total cost to have the kit factory pre-installed is $175.

For additional information, contact a local Weatherby dealer or the Weatherby Custom Shop, 3100 El Camino Real, Atascadero, Calif. 93422; (805) 466-1767. Or visit www.weatherby.com
