Hi guys well I now have the permit for the .577. However some more knowlageable people than me about all matters ruger number 1 have raised some doubts about the saftey of haveing a .577 built on a number 1 action. The argument is that there simply is not enough meat around the chamber once the threads are cut to be safe. The gunsmith I have chosen thinks it will be fine, even for full power loads, but I am wondering still, as I dont need a rifle blowing up in my face.

I see some posters on this thread have .577's and even a .600 on ruger number 1's, so I'm looking for advice about what you did to make sure the rifle was safe, I wont be loading hot, maybe 2000fps at most with a 650 grain bullet, but still I would like to have an action safe enough to fire the full power nitro loads if I ever need to, or if the rifle is ever sold to sombody else who may use factoey ammo.

Am I safer to trade the barrel and dies and go with a .500 Nitro express instead? This issue has me thinking pretty hard now about the rifle and its conversion to .577
