11.15x65R How, Where?
      #95505 - 30/01/08 12:56 PM

Hi again, I just picked up a late 19th century cape gun in 16 x 11.15x65r. Can anyone tell me if anyone rolls this ammo or where I could get some? If the case is that I have to roll my own, does anyone have load data?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, I am currently building some cartridges for my 12.7x65R double rifle from Germany 1890's, you may check with cartridge collectors but chances are you will be doing the same as I, what I finally settled on with the help of some experts & freinds. I started with starline 45-90sharps cases & thinned the rims on the front side to desired thickness (I measured the primer pockets depth first & took whatever mat'l off the face to eliminate as much chamfer as possible, I next found a die (.375 Ruger) and necked the brass to what I needed, then took an old die & recut to get close enough to chamber mfor fire forming, then filled to capicty to where the bullet would seat with light compaction, weighed that charge & substituted 40% of that weight with 4198 & poly filler between the powder & bullet, then seated the bullet and am now ready for fire forming & then working up the load for velocity & regulating. I have also had to go this route with a 10.25x60R cape gun starting with .43 mauser brass & reforming. You can also send off a chamber casting made of cerosafe to CH4D and have them custom make dies for you. Good luck & have fun with it, it is quite satisfying to put one of these old guns back into service although can be time comsuming.

Ditto as M4220 indicates.

How did you determine that this was the caliber? Is the gun so marked some where? What kind of gun is this, who made it, when? Pg. 67 European sporting cartridges lists (EXP46) 11.15 x65R LK Express
"This was the most popular calibre of the series listed to WWII by Geco & relatively common today. Listed by most German ammunition companies. This appears to be the same calibre as the 11.2x65R Collath (GPS16)." It looks like you might be in luck in finding some!

The caliber is noted on the bottom of the rifle barrel. It is a 1898 Sauer.

Here is a link to a picture to show the exact markings.

Thanks everyone for your help.

In a case the 11.15x65R, which is believed to be based on the earlier comments 11.2x65R, also equals to the terminology that is also generally used as .450 Express, then there is still cartdridges available. I've been purchasing those from Austria. Please do find the link and further info from there e.g. about the following options.

.450 Express 11,2 x 60 R oder 65, 72, 82 mm lang

And then under the; Munition / Seltene Büchsenpatronen
