My 2 new to me M-98 Sporters
      #92502 - 24/12/07 01:52 AM

Here is my German guild gun? based on a vz-47 small ring 98. It is a 9.3-57 and has a side safety and 2 leaf sights.

This one is a large ring 98 in 6.5 x 55 with 27 3/4" barrel! The reciever is marked Geko

both came to Canada via Sweden.

buckbrush, those are a pair of dandy finds!

Aren't those the rifles that got "kicked off" the Swede site?

Really interesting. Both of them are very interesting, but the lines on that 6.5 are really fine. I know nothing about German guns exported to Sweden, except in the most vague generalities. Hopefully somebody here can comment on some history and details.

Have you shot these guns yet?

An interesting collection would be non-Swede made/assembled guns in the two classic Swede calibers; 9.3x57 and 6.5x55. You are well on your way! Thanks for posting.

Buckbrush,

Very nice. Tough old guns that you could take out hunting without any hesitation. The second one has lines that look very nice to my eye.

Good hunting!

On the 6.5x55, did you mean "GECO". This would be the German distributor Gustav Genschow. If we knew what other markings were on these rifles, they could possibly be identified.

Don S, yes I spelled it wrong. I will try and take some pictures thisafternoon. The Geco is also marked on the otherside of the reciever "import"

Buckbrush. I guess it wasn't you. There were a couple interesting German guild guns that were posted, that the moderator requested they not be due to being off topic.

I'd love to know the history of ownership from purchase to disposal of your guns. Very interesting shootin irons!

These appear to be from tradeexcanada.com - I also have two earmarked for ordering - a pair of 9.3x57's, both on Husky sporter actions - probably small ring 98's.
: Surprisingly enough, they have many Sporter M96 Mausers in .30/06, along of course, with a ton of 9.3x57's, 8mm Mausers and 6.5 Swedes on the same actions.
; Too - for $75.00, they have 2 position M70-type safeties for M98's.

YES,they were purchased at Tradex. They added a bunch of Bruno 21's and ZG 47's about a week and a half ago, mostly gone now.

Daryl, if Tradex says the rifle has a Husky sporter or commercial action, with no mention of 98 in the description, it will be a 96 reciever, possibly a version without the thumb cutout.
