Welcome to the site. I am far away in New Zealand & wish we had a similar club here. The Aussies seem to have a good set up. The guys here are very knowledgeable & helpful. IMHO This is the best site of this type on the web. I hope you participate often & enjoy it here.

Kiotee,

The Big Game Rifle Club of North America has two matches every year at Lodi Wisconsin. The first one is usually in May and the second in September/October. The BGRC-NA is a daughter club of the BGRC of Australia and the official forums are the Nitroexpress Forums.

I do go when I can and have always enjoyed the superb company and the shooting. Just let me know if you would like to come this year - I shall be driving there from Chicago in the morning and returning the same evening. WOuld be glad to drive any friends who would like to come along. In any case, the details would be posted here when the match is finalised.

Cheers and good hunting!

I'm up for it. Where in NY did you have in mind. There are half a dozen ranges near here to shoot big bore, even one indoors.

Folks,

I don't know if you ever got this question answered but please take a look at how we do it at BASA. Go to www.bigbore.org

We have been trying to get international chapters going for some time but there are a host of problems:

1) Our joining fee for overseas members is too harsh because of the costs of international money transfers and postage for our quarterly journal. You can check out a copy on our website!

2) Groups that want to start up seem to lack the critical mass to really get past begin. You really need at least 15 to 20 comitted people who will carry the donkey work (This is true of most associations)

3) It's hard to share the true nuance of what we are about at long distance. Ideally we need folk who have experienced our shoots first hand to be available to potential new chapters to pass on some of the "vibe".

We are looking at solutions to these problems and should be able to start offering more info regarding this soon. We will soon have our journal available as a pdf for a much more reasonable cost too. There are a few expatriates who were members here looking to start up in Australia.

There is tiny chapter going in New Zealand and something starting up in Scandinavia.

There's been lots of queries from the States but no one has really run with it there yet.

Lets keep the conversation going and perhaps something can come of it soon?

There is the Big Game Rifle Club of Australia (SSAA) and the BGRC of USA, maybe your club could affiliate with these clubs and have international comps.

cheers

For those who have not seen it this video is a bit of what we are about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59jQs2FkqIE

Since this video first was flighted we have also added a few refinements.

We have gone to much better quality animal targets (No twirlies, balloons, windmills etc.)

We've stopped ammo being on the tables for the forced reload. It must be on your person ala hunting conditions.

We've developed more relaible trigger sytems.

Most notably we have kept some of the ranges secret before the shooter enters them so there are now "unknown" factors & red herrings. eg a cross running blue wildebeest on a buffalo hunt!

Here is a sample of some of our new target material. We print it on lifesize vinyl on correx. No more guide lines for scoring; we make templates with the score area on. No one draws aiming points on real game!

I am very impressed! looks like IPSC with Big Bore Rifle calibres! its different to BGRC as they are mainly range and standard type targets, I would like to use a double on this course.

cheers

Kiotee,

I live in NYC, but grew up upstate. I would be very interested in joining a club for Big Bore shooting.

Let me know your plans.

I wonder if anyone in the Colorado area is interested in big bore shooting also. My job (which continues to interfere with my life lol) prevented me from going to the Montana big bore shoots.

I would be interested as well. I am familiar with Davis' Sport shop and the hills behind it...as I grew up in Ringwood, NJ.

Hi Viv

Sorry I have not got back here sooner! I suppose it would be possible to "export" the vinyl sticker with the replacement "kill zone" stickers in a postage tube. You would then need to stick it onto the appropriate Corex board there. Production would only be possible in January however, because of X-Mas shutdowns, and we'd have to check on postage prices to see it does'nt kill the plan........

I will look into this in 2009 and get some estimates, but it won't be too quick I'm afraid.
