Beautiful rifle. How does it balance & shoot? Can you please put up some more pics of the ivory bead fore sight & the action top view. Has the front ring got a notch for the bullet nose a la English rifles of this caliber? Congratulations on a fine acquisition.

Naki-hunter.

Extra photos posted. The front ring has not been cut out. Bullet OAL length must be maintained to ensure loaded round will eject correctly. Rifle feeds and ejects perfectly.

The rifle points and handles very well. It suits me perfectly.

I have worked up some loads using RL 15 and have settled on 77 gn at this stage using 400 gn Woodleigh projectiles. Average velocity over chrono. is 2317 fps with very little variation. Accuracy is very good. I want to keep the velocity at around this level. I have now obtained some 400 gn Barnes TSX and will work up a load for them soon. I will probably stick with the Barnes as I like their projectlies.

JohnK,

Fantastic rifle! What barrel length did you opt for?

And, you forgot to mention the engraver's name. WHoever did this fantastically restrained embellishment needs a separate toast IMO.

Thanks for posting and very good hunting!

Great rifle. I've always liked what I've seen of Waghorn's work. Good choices on your part, too!.

Beautiful rifle!
One question though. Does the built up rear square bridge in any way obscure the rear sight?
Looks as though the top of the quarter rib is roughly even with the top of the original contour of the reciever ring which would place the sight island at a lower level than the top of the rear bridge. Your front ramp doesn't look unusually tall though. I do like the stippling on the rear facing surfaces of the rear sight - reduces glare. Some would think it looks unfinshed, but there is a good reason for that type of treatment.

Huvius,

The rear bridge does not intrude into the sight picture. The open sights are easy to aquire. No problems at all.
